After graduating from PSU in 2006, Corey Kaster started his own business as a Farmers Insurance Agent.  He specializes in homeowners, auto and life insurance. 

One of the first moves Corey made was to join the Portland Area Business Association (PABA,) Portland’s gay and lesbian chamber of commerce.  He attended both of PABA’s morning networking groups and is also a regular at the new noon group.  In addition to gaining clients right away, Corey honed his skills in presenting his products and developing the tagline “Corey Kaster…your insurance Master.”  Members of the groups quickly added the whipping sound that now always signifies the end of Corey’s commercial.

Corey is now on the board of PABA and The Corey Kaster Insurance Agency is a member of The Human Rights Campaign (HRC.)

Corey is extremely proud to be working with Farmers Insurance, noting that his customers report to him that each of them “have found Farmers provides more value than their previous company.”

In addition to providing insurance services to Portland’s GLBT community, Corey has also enjoyed services provided by others.  He recently purchased a new home through a fellow PABA realtor and financed it through a PABA mortgage broker.

Corey made his Portland Pride debut in 2006, sharing a booth with fellow PABA member Anne Viola of Rose City Mortgage.

“Our booth at Pride was an amazing opportunity to show our support of the community as well as to network and offer our services. It has been one of the keys to the rapid growth of my business.”

Corey Kaster is one of the youngest PABA members at age 25. He has quickly formed a long client list, primarily serving the needs of Portland’s GLBT community.

“Members of the GLBT community appreciate working with other members of the community for a variety of reasons. The most important reasons are the understanding of the specific needs of the community, a sense of commonality, and the desire to support each other.”

Corey has achieved success rapidly in his business and offers this advice for anyone starting a new enterprise: “Never give up!  If you have a true passion for your work, the rest will come.  The continual focus on the positive and your goals will drive you to success.  Remember that you are not doing it alone.  Find other small business owners and create a team.  Your power together will be limitless.  And network, network, network!  Get to know as many people as you can, not to try to fill your rolodex, but to share experiences and help them grow their businesses, too.”
