Welcome to my Blog!

We are active members of the Portland Gay Business community. Between the two of us, we own three companies and are partners in two others.

Aaron built the Q-Blogs blogging community to provide a welcoming, inclusive home to GLBTIQF bloggers. Rob joined Aaron to market GLBTPDXbiz as another way to support our community.

Please read through this blog to find out more about people with whom you should do business in the Portland Oregon area. Leave comments. Contact us if you have any questions. Thanks!

Gay Rights Referendum

This is from Basic Rights Oregon:

We last reported that the Constitution Party of Oregon had filed referendums on both laws. They have since withdrawn their effort in order to join a larger coalition comprised of a far-right group, "Restore America", and former Senator Marilyn Shannon, who chaired the Oregon Republican Party in the mid-1990s.

The group has indicated they may use paid signature gatherers to collect signatures. These paid signature gathers must carry a copy of the summary of the bills along with the petition and make them available for review to a person who signs the petition. In addition, we anticipate they will also gather signatures through churches and via direct mail.

The petitioners must collect 55,179 valid signatures from registered voters within 90 days after the Legislature adjourns, giving them until late September 2007. If they succeed, the implementation of two laws will be delayed from Jan. 1, 2008, until Oregonians vote on them in the general election on Nov. 4, 2008.

We will keep you up to date as to the progress of this anti-family, anti-fairness campaign.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Start the conversation with friends, family and co-workers. It is vital that the people in your life know the importance of this legislation. Because the signature threshold is so low for the referendum, we anticipate they will be able to qualify.

This will be the first GLBT-related ballot measure that our side, the pro-fairness side, will be making a YES vote at the ballot. A YES vote will keep the new laws in place, a NO vote would undo the new laws, so when talking with your friends and family, be sure to tell them, "Vote YES for basic fairness."
