Transit officials in Portland say a bus driver shouldn't have thrown two teenage lesbians off a public bus because they were kissing. "TriMet sincerely apologizes to the girls and their families for this incident," Fred Hansen, general manager of TriMet, said in statement to The Oregonian. "Removing the girls from the bus was not consistent with our policy. I want to reiterate that we welcome all riders on our system." The girls, both 14, tell KATU-TV they were on their way to the Sexual Minority Recreation Center when a female passenger complained to the driver about their kissing. After calling them "sickos," the girls say he stopped the bus and forced them to get off. Officials say the 64-year-old driver will be disciplined for violating the transit agency rules, according to the Associated Press. The Portland Mercury has re-published some of the comments about the incident it says it found on a message board used by bus operators. READ THIS! The article above is from USA Today and is a good example of some of the problems we face in promoting GLBT businesses in Portland. If people can't feel safe riding the bus, we got problems. Also, think about what this says to the young women? I still think our place in society is getting better, but we have a long ways to go.

Lordy!
Lordy-Lord-Lord!
If this were a boy/girl kiss-off no-one woulda said anything. Period.
The reality is people, we do not know the whole story and this whole thing is a whackjob.
Yes. I do believe he should not have kicked them off the bus. Yes. He should NOT have made a public statement of his private thoughts. As a TriMet driver he needed to remember he's representing the company. No. I don't think he should get fired.
I DO think the girls should have had more respect for the other bus riders and not been mashing face. I don't like it when ANY couple is halfway to the bedroom in public. But again, I wasn't there and have no idea how far they were. My guess is that when the woman objected the teens - as most rebellious teens do - started macking out exaggeratedly.
Can't we all get over this? There are simply too many other things in the world to worry about.

can't we all show a little respect?
there would have been a simpler resolution to this if people just respected eah others' public space. the P in PDA should stand for private not public. anyway, respect begets respect.

I belive the sutible thing to have done was write them up. I dont belinve that they should have been kissing in front of everybody there a place for that but thta dont call for them gettign kicked off.
