I’m happy that David Archuleta, a contestant from American Idol 7, is gay. I mean, no he didn’t announce it to the whole world, but I looked at some videos on Youtube, him singing when he was only 12 years old. His movements were very soft and all.

And how would I know?

Because I’m gay. And my gaydar picks up stuff. David Archuleta and I have a lot of things in common.

1) We’re likeable
2) We’re good looking
3) We have a great voice
4) We’re gay

But I’m not bashing him or anything. I love gay contestants, especially when they’re young, like Danny Norliega. Another gay boy. Which feels really good, to see these gay people who can sing so amazing and impressive like hell. It makes me proud to be gay too. Representing for the queers, homos, whatev.

And you know he’s not “soft” anymore, but he could be if he tried.

I bet David saw himself on Star Search, thought, “Omg I was so gay,” then quickly “corrected” himself on American Idol. (Though there’s nothing which needed correction, to be honest.)

I would hate to see people commenting on my blog saying that he’s NOT gay. Like fuck you. How would you know? All gays know others gays, and that’s a law (I consider it a law anyway!) and believe me, my gaydar is spinning enthusiastically like a bullroarer on this one.

David is just straight-acting, that’s all.

Last note: I really hope his sexual preference doesn’t influence on how you vote. So vote FOR him. So vote for HIM. He’s the best! GO DAVID ARCHULETA!!!!

I’ll pass on this. Even though I’m gay and have had the same inkling about David, I temper the conclusion with knowing that young, radiantly smiling mormon men can often give the same impression. If you think about it, all the men from the Osmonds would have set off our gaydar too. Too clean, too well-groomed, not especially masculine, loving show tunes, too sunshine-smiley.

any boy who is singing the score to Dreamgirls at age 13 is holding a one-way ticket to gaytown. the one thing that does concern me is that his family is apparently Mormon (read: despicable prejudices ahead), and combined with the very real possibility that he will be under the glare of the media for a long time, his coming out is likely to be fraught with difficulty.

Darchuleta, as I like to refer to him, has me pretty much convinced that he’s gay. He’s nothing like Danny Noriega, Danny might as well carry a purse around–David is much more subtle. It’s in his whole demeanor, the way he holds himself, his constant smiling, his shy persona. To put it frankly, he’s too sweet to be straight. But then there is also the videos of him on star search, as our resident blogger pointed out, which do clearly indicate signs of homosexuality. At this point, I see a boy who is aware of what he is, but is frightened to death about it ever coming to surface, and will continue to repress that side of him until it kills him. I can truly see him becoming one of this men who plays heterosexual to the point where he wakes up one day and finds himself with wife and kids. So that is why I’ve taken it upon myself to go out of my way and marry him, so he doesn’t hurt some poor girl, child, or do any other damage to himself.



Wow…this is an interesting blog entry. Gay people SEE gay people. I agree with that.

However, I believe that young men with same-sex attraction in the Mormon church don’t really have a “coming-out” process. I’m not saying that David will marry a woman, have kids, and so on, but rather he’ll probably seek to fill his life with something else, i.e., a singing career. His feelings may catch up with him, but they won’t really equate with “I’m gay!” like you see in the movie Latter Days, and so on. Rather, single gay Mormons get along in this world just fine if they have support of friends and family. (This is what the church suggests for gays, and while I’m not advocating it, I’m saying it’s a definite possibility for someone in David’s glare-of-the-media position.)



I’ve dated gay Mormons. One was divorced and had FOUR children.

If David’s brother is older, that would increase his odds of being gay. Higher incidence of homosexuality in 2nd born males. Gay Mormons typically come out of the closet much later, if at all, since when they come out, they are tossed out of the church and aren’t heir to all the afterlife promises malarkey of being a “chosen one. ” So, it is doubly tough for them and if David is gay, he’ll no doubt go on pretending he’s straight, even harder than Clay Aiken has. David will believe that if God is powerful enough to make him American Idol, and rich, he’s powerful enough to make him straight, even if he has to swallow a pound of viagra and make his wife wear a strap on.

I have very little gay daydar, and have known a few effeminate shy little straight men, who were gayer appearing than 75% of gays, so I do not know if David is gay or not. Seems like there’s a good chance of it with David.

I’m sure his vocal coach has even worked on butching up his delivery.

Well eversince the auditions and his multiple performances on the idol stage, i knew he was gay. He may ide it a little but you can still see when he speaks and especially when he moves. :)

If he IS gay...
...my hope is that we have evolved enough that he need not feel obligated to come out. As it is, I do not believe perceived "softness" at 12 years old is an indication of anything. I think outing -- when that is really what is going on -- is an ironic form of self-victimization... there is an unmistakable thread of self-loathing in the practice. (Think of all the times we have seen somebody on TV and said "Oh he's a FAG.”) As long as we, whether directly or indirectly, position ourselves as victims, we will be victims; similarly, if we do not make a big deal of it -- while still demanding the equal public accommodations we deserve -- then it will not be a big deal. How about we save the speculation and outing for the hypocrites, or those doing harm to the community -- the Larry Craigs, the Ted Haggarts, etc. Just my two cents. =)

just becuz though, i only seen a couple episodes of it in the earlier time of the show, i didn't quite pay attention to him, but when i saw him on the magazines and watnot, i was like wow, and then i heard him sing with you and fell in love with him basically, and then saw the finale of the show and was like he has to be gay and if he is, i'm like HEY WATSUP, OVER HERE, I LIKE YOU lol you wat i'm sayin but yea, he doesn't have to "come out" but just "let someone kno" so they're not in the dark about these things

...if he were gay that is. He does seem to be quite effeminate. I've seen his interviews and his movements. His biggest "I'm gay" action seems to be the constant licking of his lips. I think he is....
I only saw the finale to American Idol, but in the little time that I got to see David Archuleta, he gave me the impression that he might be gay. This is in no way is meant to be an attack on him, but rather my own opinion of the question at hand. He strikes me as a gay individual because he shares many similarities that many gay people tend to like. I am not denying that he has talent--because he does. It is only my opinion. My personal experience with people in the Mormon religion, just like Archuleta, cannot openly express to the world that they are gay because of the repercussion that may follow. Some gay mormoms that I know, don't go around telling everyone about their sexuality. They simply keep it among very close friends. Too bad that Arculeta didn't win the contest.

In your four common traits, I would have to disagree with #2 (Good Looking), it should read I am VAIN! On a scale of 1 to 10, I would classify you as a 6 maybe. Don't feel bad, I wouldn't classify myself over a 6 either, but I also didn't make a claim that I was good looking.

It's funny that David Cook was not labeled as being gay. You post about hell and no nothing of it as if you did, you would have posted a comment that the very spirit of a person is what one sees first as it being a first impression and it the impression of Archuleta is gay, then it is one's impression and it is usually one who is gay that picks up on the spirit of the person thast is gay as the spirit of them is the same..
