David Archuleta’s Father Outted as ‘The Worst Stage Dad’ (MTV.com)
Poor lil Davey. As if competing on “Idol” in front of the entire nation weren’t enough, it turns out that he has one Dina Lohan-level stage parent to contend with. Naomi Judd was on the Today show yesterday and confirmed all the rumors that David Archuleta’s dad Jeff is a nightmare.
Naomi was a judge on “Star Seach” back in 2003-2004, when little David was on the show. She confirms that the show had to put security on Jeff because he was — how do you say? — totally bonkers. Like, Gypsy-Rose-Lee’s-momma kind of bonkers. There have been rumors for months about the old “Star Search” incidents — and Naomi finally confirmed them. She even took a moment on live TV to ask the man to “leave [David] alone,” calling him “the worst stage dad.”

Entertainment Tonight reported that there may have been more than nerves at play during David Archuleta performance and muffing of the song “We Can Work It Out” on the American Idol 3-11-08 show:
Sources are telling ET the singer may be feeling the pressure from his “stage father” JEFF ARCHULETA, who reportedly yelled at David during a recording session Monday. Sources say Dad wasn’t happy with his son’s singing — and even brought him to tears. Neither Jeff nor reps for “American Idol” would comment on the alleged incident.

David’s father Jeff Archuleta, was really creepy and overbearing. He pushed all his kids to the side and would only focus on David and his career. When it was down to the final contestants for Star Search was when he really started losing it. Jeff couldn’t bear to see David lose, so he started HARASSING the other contestants.
He cornered David’s biggest competition, Tiffany Evans, in the green room and intimidated her, telling her she’d lose to David. No one knew about it because Tiffany didn’t tell anyone at that time. It wasn’t until later that night, when Jeff Archuleta started calling all night and harassing her in her room that Tiffany and her parents told producers. It became so intense that the producers of Star Search had a meeting and BANNED him from the lot. The only performance that he was allowed to attend was the finale. (He was sat near security)
Could all this be true? That just brings another legion of fans toward David Archuleta from even a more sympathetic standpoint. Is every thing falling into place for A David Archuleta sweep of American Idol Season 7?

In a somewhat timely rebuttal we found this:
This so-called “Stage Dad” accusation is a complete over exaggeration! David Archuleta’s dad Jeff is obviously a very huge supporter of his son and that maybe his strong support for David is being misconstrued as something out of the ordinary.
Even producers of American Idol are being respectful to the Archuleta family by taking a “no comment” stance as they do in all family matters involving contestants.
Fellow classmates at Murray High School are quick to rally in support of David and claim that the Archuleta family is genuine and real.
Like they told us “don’t believe everything you hear”, it just might be a slow day for the tabloids to make things up on what most believe to be a pretty normal relationship between a very close father and his gifted son.
So which one is it, Evil Stage Dad, or all hunk
