Just a new millenium "mid-lifer" hanging on to my free spirit and my need to live a fulfilling life outside the restrictive conventions of clocks and calendars.  So much time is spent on trying to make free time for ourselves that the process basically drains our ability to truly enjoy the moment when we are finally free of obligation. Cell phones, texting, IM-ing, email, etc. are heavy-handed, two-faced culprits in the demise of free time. Enjoying downtime is not so easy to do in this era of technological "attachedness".  So what am I doing writing a blog?  Read on and hopefully you and I will find out...

Celebrating 25 Years Of "Everybody!!!"

Posted: 23 April 2007

It may seem like only yesterday but 25 years ago on April 24, 1982, Sire Records honcho Seymour Stein released a single called "EVERYBODY" on Warner Bros. Records by an unknown singer from Rochester, Michigan by the name of Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone. To say the world would never be the same is an understatement. The song went on to become a huge dancefloor hit and was heard all over the radio in the Summer of 1982. That little girl from Michigan would go on to become one of the most famous entertainers and cultural icons in history - selling close to 200 million records and remaining a star of enormous magnitude and influence for the next 25 years. She's just getting started. Long Live the Queen and Happy Anniversary to Madonna.

Liz Rosenberg

here's the thing guys,

lately, i haven't been one to fawn over every work madonna has put out or been part of, but i respect her immensely.  so, am i critical of her? yes! but only because i believe in her and what she has created of herself.   what better lesson can one learn from her than "be fabulous, always! explore every nook and cranny of your being no matter what you might find; express who you are and who you can be and most importantly, fuck the critics!"

i only hope that everyone realizes that the ripple effect of the energy she has put out into the universe has created waves of political and social change that continue to make a positive impact on each and every one of us;  whether we see it or not.

anyway, i wish madonna another 25 years of fabulousness!  and hope you all find a little something special to celebrate today in honor of her.

P.S. i can't to see what happens on American Idol tonight!

She's a Genius (IMO)
I first fell in love with her after I heard "Like a Virgin." Then I saw DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN--at least 10 times. And even rushed out and bought the movie poster. (Wish I still had it!). Lots of folks would prefer to forget just how important her contributions to popular culture are. And I challenge her harshest critics to read the glowing piece written by Camille Paglia--a true academic--that actually dares to consider Madonna's achievements as great as Emily Dickinson's and Marilyn Monroe's! What better combo can there be?! Thanks for helping remind the forgetful ones: Madonna remains FABULOUS. Big time.
