Just a new millenium "mid-lifer" hanging on to my free spirit and my need to live a fulfilling life outside the restrictive conventions of clocks and calendars.  So much time is spent on trying to make free time for ourselves that the process basically drains our ability to truly enjoy the moment when we are finally free of obligation. Cell phones, texting, IM-ing, email, etc. are heavy-handed, two-faced culprits in the demise of free time. Enjoying downtime is not so easy to do in this era of technological "attachedness".  So what am I doing writing a blog?  Read on and hopefully you and I will find out...

audrey kawasaki: a contemporary artist whose work i want to see in person

j-06-poodle12.jpg

so i was just reading one of the newest posts on fABULON, one of my favorite blogs to read daily.  you should check it out because the content is a fun mix of retro, modern, contemporary, fashion, camp and all kinds of other cool stuff.  anyway, one of the posts was of artwork created by an artist named audrey kawasaki.  her work really is captivating and intriguing.  it's very female-centric but just so simply beautiful that anyone can appreciate it.

anyway, i looked at her site and it seems that she has shown in portland and seattle.  so i thought i would share this with those of you who live up in the pacific northwest. i hope some of you get to check out her art and maybe post something about the experience.  until then, here are some images that may entice you to check for the next showing up in your area.

I love the surrealism...
She's very talented: Sort of reminds me of a female Modigliani or Dali. I have an artist friend (a painter), and his stuff is also rather surreal. So I'm gonna have him take a peek at your site--and find out if he is familiar with this artist's awesome work. Thanks for posting this... Dylan

Very nice work ...
Modigliani? Hmmm. I'll have to think about that one. Dali? Possibly. But her color palette and story-telling aren't quite there. However, I love her work. The flow. The lines. The hint of something behind it all (unlike Dali's smash-it-over-your-head style). I have a favorite artist who's not necessarily surreal but I own a number of his pieces and built his website. Rene Capone. He's family. He's smart, talented, and stunningly beautiful ... so's his work! www.renecapone.com
